Flow Yoga, also known as Vinyasa, is an ancient yogic style/system whereby static yoga postures (asanas) are linked together with movement & rhythmic breathing.
How it works?
- Continuous movement maintains heat in the body, and brings fresh oxygen to the blood and in turn the muscles; which are warm & nourished with oxygen as we move into yoga postures
- By unifying movement with rhythmic breathing, we soothe the nervous system and calm the mind & body
- The postures are linked, creating a continuous flow of energy helping maintain internal focus, and the focus of the class/group
- As we gradually increase the heat in the body, this leads to detoxification of the internal organs, and seceretion of toxins through the skin (sweat)
Class structure:
- Breathing techniques (pranayama) to calm the mind, and provide a focus for the class
- Gentle warm up
- Slow Flow
- Standing postures (linked with movement)
- Slow Flow
- Seated postures
- Restorative postures / Relaxation (e.g. Savasana)
