Yoga Annie is the company/trading name of Gill Mines who is a Certified Yoga Teacher, and registered with Yoga Alliance (International) Professionals.
Gill is a Registered Yoga Teacher Ashtanga-Vinyasa (Flow Yoga), and trained in India under Mahesh Chandra, a pupil of Sri. BNS Iyengar.
Flow Yoga, known as Vinyasa in the East, is an ancient yogic system, whereby static yoga postures (asanas) are linked together with movement & rhythmic breathing. With its numerous benefits, Gill believes Flow is suitable for students of all levels.
Key benefits of Flow/Vinyasa:
- By unifying movement with rhythmic breathing, we soothe the nervous system and calm the mind & body
- Continuous movement maintains heat in the body, and brings fresh oxygen to the blood and in turn the muscles; which are warm & nourished with oxygen as we move into yoga postures
- A continuous flow of energy helps maintain internal focus
- Increased heat in the body leads to detoxification of the internal organs, and secretion of toxins through the skin (sweat)
A typical class starts with breathing techniques (pranayama) to calm the mind and provide focus. Next a warm-up sequence. Moving into the flow sequence, initially slow and gradually increasing in intensity incorporating standing postures. Flowing through to seated postures, and finishing with restorative asanas, including a deep Savasana (corpse pose) so the body & mind are rejuvenated.
New to yoga? Gill teaches beginners weekly, of all ages and physical ability, and prides herself in being able to adapt yoga to suit those just starting out.
